When a consonant comes at the end of a syllable, it may be
pronounced differently than in the initial position. While
at the beginning of syllables 28 distinct sounds for consonants
exists, there are only 8 at the end of a syllable. This is
due to the fact that whole groups of consonants have the same
final sound. The so-called word-ending-protocols are:

The following consonants will not appear at the end of a
syllable: ฉ ซ ผ
ฝ ห ฮ
But in transcripts from Western languages ซ
can still come at the end of a syllable. This is intended
to indicate that the sound actually is a "s". Thus
it is to allow to the speaker to pronounce a "t"
regarding to the Thai rules or express the word in "foreign-utterance".
If ย ว อ
occour at the end of a syllable, they do not act as consonants
but than vowels.
